ºÚ¶´ÉçÇø green developments towards a zero carbon standard costs an additional 12.5%, according to research by CBRE Hamptons International.
Analysis of the property developer’s model green 12-storey, 50 unit housing development totalling 80 000 square feet, which includes features such as a combined heat and power system, natural ventilation and energy efficient appliances, reveals a green premium of £20.63 per square foot.
Using standard building costs of £162.65 per square foot, building a 650 ft2 flat costs £105 700. This represents an increased cost of £13 400.
Nick Jopling, managing director of CBREHI, launched the research at Think 07, the conference on sustainability and regeneration which featured Prince Charles and Al Gore.
