Anthony Dillon will take charge of Willmott Dixon’s planned expansion into the north west. Dillon, who was a senior commercial manager at Costain, is operations director and a candidate for the northern MD’s job when the office opens next year.
Why did you move to Willmott Dixon?
I saw an opportunity to join a very successful company and contribute to its development and growth in the north west. I was impressed by its senior management team, their culture and attitude towards staff, clients and supply chain. They also lead the thinking on issues such as collaborative working and sustainability.
What sort of people are you looking for in the new office?
Those who can safely deliver quality projects on time and on budget. But I also want people who can do that by working well with clients, consultants and subcontractors.
What sort of opportunities do you see for Willmott Dixon in the north west?
I want to build on the very successful frameworks we have in place with Manchester City Council and Cheshire County Council and see some good opportunities in the education sector.
What will be the biggest change for the industry in the next five years?
Sustainability. Companies that lead on this will do well.
What’s your advice to aspiring managers?
Understand the brief, programme the works, manage the design, procure in sufficient time, lead the team and above all, communicate with all members of the team.
Jose Mourinho or Alex Ferguson?
Alex. I would like to be in Athens on 23 May 2007.
