Telford College, Edinburgh
What: Telford College campus in Edinburgh, the largest purpose-built college to be built in Scotland for over 30 years. The new facility replaces Telford鈥檚 four existing campuses. It will cater for 20,000 students and 600 staff.

When: Work started in February 2004 and was completed in May of this year. Scottish first minister Jack McConnell officially opened the campus last month.

PM view: 鈥淲hat was unique about this project was the range of facilities that were required on one site. Practical courses are a huge percentage of the college鈥檚 offering, so a number of different tailor-made teaching facilities had to be created under one roof. These ranged from joinery, welding and plastering units for the 黑洞社区 and Engineering department to hair and beauty teaching salons, which are open to the public,鈥 鈥 Kerr Simpson, senior project manager, Faithful+Gould.
