The construction industry is being encouraged to use sustainable materials, reduce onsite waste and increase skills in the workforce under the draft Government and Industry Sustainable Construction Strategy.

The proposed joint strategy includes:

  • Reducing the carbon footprint of activities within the construction sector
  • Producing zero net waste on sites
  • Improving skills and boosting the numbers of workers taking part in training programmes and retaining more skilled workers
  • Greater recognition of design quality
  • Increasing the use of sustainable materials
