I read with interest Tracy Edwards’ recent interview with Steve Kimber, chair of the newly formed Fire and Security Association (EMC, March, pages 32-34). Steve refers to meeting with the EC`A’s education and training committee ‘for the development of standards which we will be setting to national qualifications.’
Whilst I am delighted that the FSA is promoting vocational education and training to its members, I wish to point out that Skills for Security is the official, government endorsed standards setting body for the security systems sector and maintains the current suite of national occupational standards, together with apprenticeship frameworks. These are due to be updated next year and we welcome involvement from the FSA and other security systems employers.
Interested parties should contact Skills for Security’s standards development manager, Ruth Oliver, by email: ruth.oliver@skillsforsecurity.org.uk
