Emergency service
Cooper Lighting and Security has launched the JSB Micropoint recessed LED luminaire. Designed to provide unobtrusive emergency lighting, the fitting is slightly larger than a 50p piece and is available in maintained and non-maintained versions.
In maintained mode, while the mains supply is healthy, the light output can be programmed to be at low, normal or high level to suit the application. In the event of a mains failure it automatically reverts to the correct emergency light level.

Low-energy lamps
Philips has developed two new lamps aimed at delivering significant energy savings.
The first is the Master PL Xtra range, which is claimed to save up to 80% energy compared to incandescent lamps and provide over twice the life of standard compact fluorescent light bulbs (32,000 hours or eight years of ordinary use). This means significant savings on maintenance and associated environmental costs.
The second, due for launch in the autumn, is the Edore range of compact halogen lamps. These use patented technology, which is claimed to save 50% on energy used compared to an ordinary household incandescent lamp. Edore lamps are also claimed to last three times longer than ordinary incandescent lamps and provide a high quality crisp halogen light.
The new lamps are aimed, both at home lighting and hotels, bars and restaurants. Edore bulbs will light up instantly and can be dimmed, something which will lead to even more energy savings.

On the right track
The Rail66 lighting system by WE-EF is designed to provide freedom and creativity for external façade lighting. The system can be mounted
vertically or horizontally to a façade, post or suspended for illumination of horizontal areas. The rail is mounted to the façade at only two points using bracket supports. Spotlights and floodlights can be set as desired and the cables running through the inside of the rail can be wired through one central connecting point in the façade.
