Eckersley O鈥機allaghan working on 40-storey building in city鈥檚 Central Station district
London firm Eckersley O鈥機allaghan is carrying out structural and fa莽ade engineering work on the world鈥檚 tallest hybrid timber tower.
The 180m high building in Sydney will become the new headquarters of Australian software firm Atlassian.
Designed by New York based architect SHoP and local firm BVN, the 40-storey tower (pictured) features a glass and steel envelope supporting a largely timber interior.
The tower鈥檚 40 storeys will be divided into 10 timber 鈥榥eighbourhoods鈥 of around four floors each, with each one separated by a so-called mega floor attached to the steel facade. It will house 4,000 Atlassian employees when complete.
The building will operate on 100% renewable energy on day one according to Atlassian, which has pledged to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.
Solar panels will be built into the facade, while inside, natural ventilation and planted terraces add to the tower鈥檚 green credentials.
The scheme is being built in the Central Station district which also includes a new station of the same name, co-designed by John McAslan & Partners and being built by Laing O鈥橰ourke under a A$995m (拢526m) deal.
