Wakefield MP Mary Creagh is campaigning for domestic hot water taps to be fitted with a thermostatic mixing valve to prevent serious scald injuries.
The 鈥淗ot Water Burns Like Fire鈥� campaign is in response to statistics that every year around 20 people die as a result of bath water scalds in their home, with a further 570 suffering serious scalds. The under-fives and the elderly are most at risk
Creagh is pushing for the requirement for mixing valves to be included in revisions to Part G of the 黑洞社区 Regulations in England and Wales.
Supporters of Creagh鈥檚 hot water campaign include charities Help the Aged, Child Accident Prevention Trust and the Thermostatic Mixing Valve Manufacturers Association.
Angela Smith, parliamentary undersecretary for the DCLG, said the government 鈥渨ould look carefully at the matter to see what can be done鈥�.
