Classical and contemporary structures, products and designers all sparkle under the spotlight at the 2007 Lighting Design Awards.
From footbridges to flight lounges, housing estates to tennis museums, the 2007 Lighting Design Awards showcased the wide gamut of projects that have been brought to life by innovative and artistic lighting installations.
Contractors have, of course, played a major part in nearly all of the winning and commended projects. Firms involved in the 11 winning schemes include Balfour Beatty, Skanska, Jett Electrical, Mid Essex Electrical, Pococks, Trilectric, MCE, Millbridge, Target Site Services, Reed Engineering ºÚ¶´ÉçÇø Services and MJN Colston.
Three lighting products were also recognised as outstanding at the awards ceremony, which took place on 15 March at London’s Hilton Hotel. These were Siteco Lighting’s Novaluna S, which won the interior lighting category with its use of the latest evolution Eldacon micro-prismatic materal; Terreno hi.vertical from Hoffmeister Leuchtenan, an external luminaire with high efficiency reflector system; and LeafNut, an electronic ballast with integrated wireless technology and internet communications from Harvard Engineering.
Mark Major of Speirs and Major Associates won lighting designer of the year, while his practice took top honours in two categories with its relighting of St Paul’s Cathedral and illumination of the Sackler Crossing at Kew Gardens.
