Today (1 August) sees the launch of Home Information Packs (HIPs) in England and Wales.
Every home put on the market with four bedrooms or more is now required by law to have one of these packs, the core component of which is the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).
Four bedroom properties make up just 18% of the overall housing market. However, there are plans to extend the scheme to cover three bedroom properties, followed by the remainder of the domestic market.
The government has announced that it is necessary to have 2000 home inspectors and domestic energy assessors in place in order to implement the HIP scheme for three bedroom houses, and 3000 to cover the entire market.
Current progress reports confirm that 2224 people have been accredited, with a further 710 waiting for accreditation having passed exams.
