CIBSE and ASHRAE are to offer a reciprocal membership agreement with the aim of broadening the exchange of ideas and knowledge.

Under the new agreement, ASHRAE members who hold professional engineering designations can join CIBSE without undergoing the normal qualifications review. Likewise, CIBSE members can join without undergoing ASHRAE鈥檚 admissions and advancement review.

John Armstrong, president of CIBSE, said: 鈥淭his is another step in strengthening the links between our two organisations and an opportunity for our respective members to access wider knowledge, information and guidance, which is now essential if we are to design, construct and operate more sustainable buildings in the future.鈥

鈥淢aking it easier for ASHRAE and CIBSE members to join our respective organisations furthers the exchange of ideas,鈥 Terry Townsend, ASHRAE president, said. 鈥淲hen our members join other groups, particularly outside North America, they are exposed to new technologies since HVAC&R technology differs due to geographic, environmental, cultural and economic requirements. This exposure makes for more well-rounded engineers and more well-rounded engineering organisations.鈥
