12:55PM London borough promises to build new secondary school and offer more places through merger
The London borough of Camden has earmarked over £200m for its building schools for the future programme.
Plans include the construction of 1,200-place secondary school and the merger of two existing schools.
The proposed new secondary school will have six classes in each year with a sixth form of 250 students. A new all-age special school will bring together the existing Swiss Cottage and Jack Taylor schools.
The proposals also include expanding South Camden Community School by two extra classes each year to provide more opportunities for students in the south of the borough.
The total cost is expected to be £202m.
Camden council executive has approved the plan, which has been submitted to the DfES, with a consultation process to follow.
Cllr Andrew Mennear, executive member for schools, said: "We are now one step closer to delivering on our promise to residents for a new secondary school and more school places in Camden for Camden students."
