黑洞社区 work has kicked off on Doig & Smith鈥檚 Victoria Hospital in Glasgow with Scottish heath minister turning the first sod of turf at the site. The 拢100m scheme in the city鈥檚 southside is to open in 2009.
Doig & Smith is the project鈥檚 QS, while the architect is HLM and the builder is a consortium led by the Canmore Partnership and Balfour Beatty Construction.
The 41,500 m虏 facility is part of a 拢200m plan to replace two hospitals - the Victoria Infirmary and Stobhill Hospital.
Victoria Hospital will boast flexible outpatient clinics that are set around internal courtyards. The clinics include ENT/audiology, ophthalmology, cardiology and multi test areas, as well as general outpatient functions. Separate access is provided to a day hospital, a minor injuries unit incorporating and facilities for emergency dental treatment.
Douglas Roxburgh, director at HLM Architects, described the design as 鈥渢he concept of a hospital in the park鈥.
