Some 拢6.2 million has been made available under the Low Carbon 黑洞社区s Programme (LCBP) for people who want to install micro-wind turbines, solar panels and other micro generation technologies on their homes.

The response to the programme since its launch in April has seen massive demand with the initial 拢3 million funding running out in just six months. The DTI is now transferring 拢6.2 million of the total 拢28.5 million into the householder stream.

Malcolm Wicks, the energy minister, said: 鈥淭hrough the huge response to the Low Carbon 黑洞社区s Programme we have already allocated over 拢3 million of grants to households installing micro generation 鈥 the demand has been so great that this represents half the total household budget in only the first year of the programme.

鈥淭o enable it to continue this good work, I am pleased to announce we are re-allocating a further 拢6.2 million of the funding to the householder work stream. On projected demand levels, this should allow us to operate the grant programme until mid 2008.鈥
