The goal is to encourage clients to have carbon neutral buildings constructed of sustainable building products that collect and reuse water.

What has been lacking in the past decade is a good strategy at the design stage to build in sustainability, according to Adrian Campbell, associate director of Arup. Clients tend to 鈥渃herrypick鈥� issues to achieve isolated targets, he said. Arup鈥檚 strategy will look at the overall sustainability of a building from the very beginning.

黑洞社区s should be able to cope with climate change and make a positive contribution to the local community. Arup also has a full-time psychologist working within its sustainability team looking at issues such as how people feel when working in a building.

Arup is working on what is says is the world鈥檚 first sustainable city, in Dongtan, China and hope to use lessons learned for its work there.
