Savant appointed by FC Shakhtar to advise on Ukraine's first UEFA stadium
Savant, the London based construction consulting firm, will advise FC Shakhtar, Ukraine's League Champions, on strategic matters for the construction of its $250m stadium.
Savant's principal responsible for Ukraine, David Whitehouse said: "The stadium will be an architectural and cultural landmark and I'm certain that it will attract a considerable amount of international attention. Savant has all the experience and skills required to provide valuable support to the project team."
Located in Donetsk, eastern Ukraine, the stadium will be the first one in the country designed to meet UEFA and FIFA requirements for 5-star accreditation. The project will not only provide state-of-the-art facilities to the football team and its fans, but it also hopes to raise the profile of the whole region in the national and international sports community.
The construction will start in June 2006 and is anticipated to take 24 months. Savant will be working closely with the Client's in-house project management team to advise on project costs, schedule, quality and safety.
The stadium will be able to accommodate 50,000 spectators and will include ultramodern facilities for players, visitors, VIP guests, spectators and service staff. Designed by Arup Sport, the stadium has a striking oval bowl structure, with an inclined, lightweight space frame roof. The safety features are based on UK guidelines and the stadium provides a generous infrastructure for disabled visitors.
